Drivers on St. George Street at Church Street in Moncton face a single lane with stop-and-go traffic on Monday and Tuesday while crews maintain the CN railway crossing, the City of Moncton said.
The work runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days, Nov. 2 and 3, according to a city public service announcement posted Oct. 30. Signage and flaggers will control traffic, and the city said delays are to be expected.
The crossing sits on one of the city’s central routes, so drivers heading through the downtown core during the day may want to allow extra time or choose another route.
It is the second rail-crossing job on city streets in a week. The city closed English Drive at its CN crossing on Oct. 30 from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. for maintenance, with a signed detour via Delong Drive and Edinburgh Drive. The city said that work was needed to keep conditions safe for rail and road users.
The city also warned residents about repairs to one of its water transmission lines, which could discolour tap water. Earlier this fall, Moncton lost its bid for the 2028 Memorial Cup to Québec City.
Residents can find current closures and notices on the City of Moncton’s news and notices page at moncton.ca.
