Bethesda Game Studios has named its next Elder Scrolls game The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel, revealing the subtitle on Tuesday as part of a video marking the company’s 40th anniversary.
Todd Howard, the studio’s game director, shared the name at the end of the anniversary video, which was followed by a short teaser trailer, according to coverage from Insider Gaming, Thurrott.com and Wccftech. The reveal gave no release date, no confirmed platforms and no gameplay footage.
The teaser included a quote attributed to Yazar, Moth Priest of High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, which several gaming outlets read as confirming the long-rumoured Hammerfell setting. Bethesda has not publicly described the setting in detail.
Wccftech reported that it will be “some time” before Bethesda shares more about the game. The studio has not given a timeline for further announcements.
The name had been rumoured for weeks. The Verge reported earlier that the game’s title would be Sentinel and that a reveal could come in November, possibly around the 15th anniversary of Skyrim on Nov. 11. Bethesda did not comment on those reports at the time. Fans had also pointed to an August social media post by Microsoft gaming executive Asha Sharma, who described watching a live playthrough of “The Elder Scrolls VI” with the subtitle hidden behind asterisks. Fans decoded the hidden word as “Sentinel.”
The Elder Scrolls VI was first announced with a short teaser in 2018. It is the follow-up to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which was released on Nov. 11, 2011, and remains one of the best-selling role-playing games.
Searches for the game spiked in Canada on Tuesday as the reveal circulated online, according to Google Trends. Bethesda has not said which platforms the game will launch on, including whether it will be exclusive to Xbox and PC.
