A Canadian figure skating duo’s Olympics are suddenly in jeopardy.
Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps withdrew from the team event due to a training injury suffered by the former, the Canadian Olympic Committee announced on Monday.
Stellato-Dudek’s status for the pairs event is being assessed daily, the COC said.
The pairs portion of the team event is slated for Friday and Sunday. The pairs competition on its own will take place Feb. 15-16.
Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud, who upset Stellato-Dudek and Deschamps for the national title in January, could be an option to fill in for the team event.
Stellato-Dudek, 42, and Deschamps, 34, were set to compete in their first-ever Olympics. The Chicago-born Stellato-Dudek received her Canadian citizenship in December 2024 in order to represent the country at the Winter Games.
The duo won gold at the 2024 world championships together.
