Michelle Bonnici, CEO and interim president of Good Samaritan, said outdoor visits at the facility have been cancelled. Residents and staff are screened for symptoms and temperatures are checked twice a day.
“The screening tool we use for both residents and employees is comprehensive and covers all of the requirements listed in the public health orders,” said Bonnici in an email statement.
Good Samaritan is working with Alberta Health Services to provide on-site testing for employees. A total of 48 residents and 16 employees at the facility currently have COVID-19. Eight employees have recovered.
There are 13 patients at the Misericordia Hospital who have tested positive for COVID-19. No patients have tested positive since July 13. A total of 24 staff have tested positive with the latest positive case coming on July 17, latest numbers from Covenant Health show. Fifty-eight cases have been linked to the hospital’s outbreak.
Across the province, an additional 80 cases of COVID-19 were reported by Alberta Health Tuesday – the smallest daily increase since July 12 when there were 78 new cases.
Active cases currently sit at 1,397 and 8,886 people have recovered since the beginning of the pandemic. Eighty-eight people are in Alberta hospitals with COVID-19, 16 of whom are in intensive care units.
One previously reported death in the province was ruled to not be COVID-19 related, bringing the provincial total to 187.
