A third 62 is in the books.
New Zealand’s Ryan Fox tied the men’s major-championship scoring record with an 8-under in the third round of The Open Championship on Saturday at Royal Birkdale in Southport, England.
Fox leapt into a tie for first place with Australia’s Lucas Herbert, who recorded a 62 on Friday.
Less than an hour after Herbert’s record-tying round, American Sam Burns also shot a 62.
It is the first time ever that three players have shot 62 in the same men’s major. There have been seven total instances of the feat, including twice by Xander Schauffele.
The overall major record is held by South Korea’s Haeran Ryu, who shot 60 at the women’s Evian Championship earlier in July in France.
Fox, who won the Canadian Open last year, had a putt for 61 on the 18th hole, but left it short before tapping in for par.
