And, we’re back. After a long four-week hiatus, high school football is back. Unfortunately, the break was long enough to make the resumption of the regular season impossible, so most leagues have gone straight to abbreviated playoffs. Some leagues or divisions within leagues that do not have teams advancing to SSA Provincials will run a longer playoff or exhibition games deep into November. The 12-a-side teams are slotted into their levels based on their estimated school size by School Sport Alberta, while the 9 and 6-a-side are one level only. Some re-sorting of 12-a-side levels will take place after the final official population numbers are recorded at the end of September. Please note that games vs. US opponents, scrimmages, or tournaments are not taken into consideration for ranking or listed in the overall record of the schools.

Upcoming games of the week:
5A-#5 L.C.I. Rams at #2 Raymond Comets-Nov. 7, at 6 p.m. Comets Stadium (Raymond)
Well, if you had to wait four weeks between games, this isn’t a bad way to return to action. Annually, one of Alberta’s most
anticipated games, this Southern Alberta classic is just what the doctor ordered. Prior to the break, Raymond had been on cruise
control, beating their opponents handily after dropping their first game of the season to #1-ranked Harry Ainlay. The Rams have had
some ups and downs but had played consistently great teams prior to the work stoppage, only losing to Harry Ainlay and Ernest
Manning in competitive contests. L.C.I. is a great team and can play with anyone, but we’ll see how the long break, combined with
playing in Alberta’s hardest stadium, to eke out a win as the visitor. Must see football on Friday night in Raymond!
3A-#2 St. Paul Lions at #1 Holy Rosary Raiders-Nov. 7, TBA, TBA (Lloydminster)
We don’t have a time yet for this one, as Holy Rosary is hoping to have its new artificial turf field ready for action next week. Failing its availability, the game will be somewhere else. In any event, we can’t ignore a #1 vs. #2 match-up coming back from the break.
This game will also serve as the Wheatland League Championship. Holy Rosary is defending Provincial 3A Champions, but the
Lions are one of the few teams that have defeated them in recent years. Should be a good one in Lloydminster.
