Toews, the 37-year-old Winnipeg native, holds a no-movement clause on the one-year, $2-million contract he signed with the Jets in July.
“I wouldn’t consider going anywhere,” Toews said. “I want to keep playing for this team.”
Toews has struggled to regain his peak form in return to the NHL after two seasons away with injury.
While playing in all of Winnipeg’s 56 games, Toews has recorded seven goals and 12 assists.
Still, his experience as a three-time Stanley Cup captain with the Chicago Blackhawks could have enticed a contender to view him as a positive addition for the stretch run.
Instead, Toews will stay in Winnipeg, where he’ll aim to help the team dig its way out of a pre-Olympic rut and into playoff contention.
“I don’t even know that we’re not a playoff team,” he said, noting several close calls during an 11-game winless streak earlier in the season.
The Jets sit seventh in the Central Division with 52 points.
After visiting Vancouver Wednesday in its return to play, Winnipeg stays on the West Coast for dates with the Anaheim Ducks on Friday and San Jose Sharks on Sunday.
