The City of Charlottetown has installed a new public electric vehicle charging station at the Victoria Park ballfields, bringing the number of city-operated charging locations to 11, the city said in a news release Tuesday.
The station is next to the batting cages at 36 Forbes Kennedy Way and can charge two vehicles at a time. Charging costs $1 for the first hour and $2 an hour after that.
The city said all of its charging stations are open to the public, and drivers can pay by credit card or through the ChargePoint app. Rates are shown in the app and may vary by location.
The other 10 city-operated sites are City Hall at 87 Kent St., the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre at 109 Queen St., downtown at 94 Great George St., Peakes Quay at 9 Prince St., the Pownal Parkade at 116 Pownal St., the Fitzroy Parkade at 130 Fitzroy St., Cody Banks Arena at 56 Maple Ave., Simmons Sports Centre at 170 North River Rd., West Royalty Community Centre at 1 Kirkdale Rd. and Hillsborough Community Centre at 199 Patterson Dr.
The city points drivers to PlugShare for an interactive map of charging stations in Charlottetown, including rates and real-time availability.
The announcement comes a day after Charlottetown voters chose a new council. Read our report on Zuccolo’s election as the city’s first woman mayor in 50 years, and our look at the city’s best-in-Atlantic-Canada tap water. Skaters can also check public skating times, fees and passes for the season.
