The City of London, Ont., will remove some signs, bollards and other temporary traffic-calming measures from city streets in the coming weeks to make room for snow-clearing equipment.
The city said in an Oct. 28 public service announcement that some seasonal traffic-calming measures and bike lane bollards may come out so winter maintenance crews can operate. The changes are meant to help crews clear snow and keep streets safe during the winter.
The city said the seasonal measures will be put back in the spring, where needed.
It reminded drivers to slow down, adjust their speed to road and weather conditions, and watch for people walking and cycling. Drivers should take extra care near schools, intersections and pedestrian crossings, the city said.
The city did not list which streets will lose bollards or signs. It said it continues to work toward safer streets through street design, traffic calming and road safety education.
The notice comes as road work wraps up before winter in other parts of the city. Overnight detours on Fanshawe Park Road run this week as crews prepare for final paving, and Richmond Street is closed from Nov. 3 to 5 for sewer work. Downtown, York Street has reopened to traffic after utility replacement.
