Environment Canada says prolonged, heavy rainfall is possible in southern New Brunswick, with 40 to 70 mm potentially falling from Friday evening until Sunday night.
In a special weather statement issued at 3:18 p.m. AT Friday that covers Moncton and southeast New Brunswick, the weather office said a slow-moving system is expected to bring a period of rain that may become heavy at times. Thundershowers may develop in some areas, producing locally heavier rainfall, especially tonight into Saturday morning.
The agency said there is some uncertainty over where the highest amounts will fall, but significant totals are possible in some locations, especially along the Bay of Fundy.
It is a statement rather than a rainfall warning. Environment Canada said it will continue to monitor the system and update alerts as needed. We reported earlier on heavy rain possible in southwestern Nova Scotia, and on the wider weekend outlook of wind in Alberta and rain in the east.
Environment Canada asks New Brunswickers to report severe weather to [email protected] or on social media with #NBStorm. Current alerts are posted on the Environment Canada website.
