Blue Jays to induct Buck Martinez into new Hall of Excellence

Martinez will be inducted into the new Hall of Excellence at Rogers Centre on Aug. 29, the team announced on Thursday.

The legendary manager and broadcaster retired on Feb. 6 after nearly 40 years with the team.

“Buck has been one of the defining voices of the Blue Jays, and his passion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to this organization embody everything the Hall of Excellence represents,” Blue Jays president and CEO Mark Shapiro said in a statement. “Honouring Buck’s legacy in our 50th season is a privilege and a moment that reflects the profound connection he has built with fans across Canada.”

The new Hall of Excellence will replace the previous Level of Excellence, which was located on the fascia in the outfield bowl of the ballpark.

The Hall of Excellence, which will be located on the 100 level concourse behind right field, will include all 11 previous members of the Level of Excellence.
