Seven youths charged with robbery
Seven Guelph youths face robbery charges after an eighth was lured to a vacant building and had his property stolen last month.
On October 11, the 17-year-old victim attended a vacant building in the downtown area believing he was meeting a female with whom he had been communicating online. Instead he was confronted by several teens who followed him into the building.
The victim was repeatedly punched and kicked and handed over property including his phone and some clothing. He sustained minor injuries but did not require medical treatment. Video footage of the incident was shared on social media, leading to the identity of the accused parties.
Four males and three females, ranging in age from 14 to 17, have since been arrested for robbery. They have all been released to appear in a Guelph court December 7, 2022.
Male arrested for impaired driving
A Guelph male faces an impaired driving charge following a traffic stop Monday evening.
Approximately 7:30 p.m. the Guelph Police Service received information about a possible impaired driver in the area of Gordon Street and Clair Road West. A vehicle was located in a parking lot, running and parked across two parking spots.
Officers spoke to the driver, who was showing obvious signs of impairment. He was arrested and transported to the police station, where testing indicated he had more than the legal amount of alcohol in his system.
A 21-year-old Guelph male is charged with impaired operation. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for seven days. He will appear in a Guelph court November 18, 2022.
Stunt charge after passing cruiser
A Guelph male was taken off the road Tuesday morning after speeding past a police cruiser.
Approximately 6:45 a.m. a member of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit was patrolling on Wellington Street West near the Hanlon Expressway when he was passed by a car, which was caught on radar travelling 105 km/h in the posted 60 km/h zone.
A 38-year-old Guelph male was charged with speeding and stunt driving. His driver’s licence was suspended for 30 days and his vehicle was impounded for 14 days.
