Redditor Redesigns Ben Affleck’s Batsuit In Classic Blue And Gray Style
|
Ben Affleck’s Batman batsuit is redesigned in classic blue and gray thanks to a fan user’s reimagining. Although the classic suit design is somewhat reflected in The Flash trailer, the user’s redesign is still distinct.
Affleck’s Batman is perhaps the most comic-accurate adaptation, depicting the character in his darkest moments in Batman v Superman. As a result of Batman’s journey throughout BVS and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the character arc was always meant to end with a more hopeful Batman. Although audiences might not see that journey come to its fruition in the way Snyder had initially intended, The Flash may still honor this character growth reflected in the classic blue cape and cowl with what’s supposed to be an “emotional sendoff” for Affleck’s Batman.
Despite the blue cape and cowl that Batman dons in The Flash, the rest of the design steers away from the look that dominated comics from the 1940s to the mid-80s. However, Reddit user DownerSteve redesigns Affleck in the comic-accurate gray fabric worn in Batman v Superman to match the blue cape and cowl shown in The Flash trailer. The gray fabric from Batman v Superman is now fitted with white eyes, taller bat ears, blue boots and gauntlets, and the classic yellow belt and oval symbol. All that is missing is the classic trunks. The Reddit user states that they had tried trunks but couldn’t make it work for live-action, although making them a bit longer might have done the trick, as some cosplays seem to pull this off.
It would have been nice to see Affleck wear this classic design in The Flash, as it would have been more comic-accurate. However, it would also be a less-jarring transition from how the character was first shown in Batman v Superman, especially if this is Affleck’s last appearance as Batman. Even so, having this version of Batman in blue, even if not the same style from the comics, is fitting, as this adaptation of Batman started in a dark mental state and became more hopeful following Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which now leads into The Flash.
Affleck had a better experience in The Flash than how he was treated during the Justice League re-shoots, so the blue style reflects the differing experiences. The color represents both Batman’s character arc and the actor’s mental state while playing him, from where they were and where they are.
The Flash will premiere in theaters on June 16, 2023.
