Redmi’s Note 12 Discovery Edition Smartphone Recharges in 9 Minutes

Published

 on

Redmi launched its latest Note Series smartphones in China this week, with one model capable of fully recharging its battery in just 9 minutes.

Four models of the Redmi Note 12(Opens in a new window) were revealed yesterday (Note 12 5G, Note 12 Pro, Note 12 Pro+, and Note 12 Discovery Edition). All of them offer fast charging to some degree, but it’s the high-end Note 12 Discovery Edition that will have consumers and rivals wide-eyed due to that 9 minute recharge time.

Redmi equipped the Discovery Edition with a 210W HyperCharge feature, which relies on three 100W fast-charging chips to maximize the charging speed. The chips are distributed in a “winged layout” so as to avoid heat problems, and the 4,300mAh battery uses a new structural design and materials. Redmi says its charger uses a GaN design and is combined with a 10.5A ultra-low impedance cable to achieve an increased current capacity of 75% compared to a 120W/6A cable.

Incredibly fast charging alone isn’t enough to ensure a phone purchase, but the Note 12 Discovery Edition doesn’t skimp on features. It uses a 6.7-inch 1080p OLED display with support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, a 200MP main camera (Samsung HPX sensor), 8MP ultra-wide camera, 2MP macro camera, and 16MP front camera. Inside the Android 12 handset you’ll find a MediaTek Dimensity 1080 processor, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. The price is also impressive at just $330.

Redmi is a subsidiary of Xiaomi and therefore its phones aren’t officially available in the US, but that’s not to say 210W fast charging won’t make it into other handsets in the near future. The ability to advertise a sub-10 minute full recharge is something smartphone marketing departments will want to jump on and shout about to consumers.

Genshin Impact has won the Player’s Voice award at The Game Awards 2022, following an intense battle against Elden Ring and Sonic Frontiers.

Earlier this week, ahead o the show, the results projected that Genshin Impact would edge out both Sonic Frontiers and Elden Ring. Other nominees for the Player’s Voice category include God of War: Ragnarok and Stray.

Although Elden Ring, in particular, did not get selected, FromSoftware’s latest project did go home with a few awards, including Best Art Direction and Best Game Direction.
