One of the greatest players of his generation is likely headed to the Turkish Super Lig.
Mohamed Salah, who is a free agent after he and Liverpool mutually agreed to terminate his contract early, has begun negotiations with Trabzonspor, the Turkish side announced on Tuesday.
The club added Salah was set to arrive in Trabzon on Wednesday, which would suggest an official agreement is soon to follow. The statements were written in Turkish and translated by Sportsnet using Google tools.
Salah left Liverpool at the conclusion of this past campaign, after nine seasons with the Merseyside club.
Across 440 appearances in all competitions for the club, Salah scored 256 goals and added 121 assists as he cemented his name into both Liverpool and Premier League history. The two-time African Footballer of the Year was named Premier League Player of the Season twice, won the Premier League twice and the Champions League once.
Trabzonspor, one of Turkey’s big four alongside Istanbul clubs Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas, finished third in the Turkish Super Lig last season, eight points off champions Galatasaray. The seven-time Turkish champions qualified for the Europa League playoff round, which will get underway on Aug. 20.
