Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada invited 7,500 candidates to apply for permanent residence in two Express Entry draws on Oct. 15 and Oct. 16, according to the department’s published rounds of invitations.
The Oct. 15 round (No. 449) was for the Canadian Experience Class. IRCC issued 2,500 invitations to apply with a lowest Comprehensive Ranking System score of 519. That is 500 more invitations than the Sept. 29 Canadian Experience Class round, which invited 2,000 at a cut-off of 518.
The next day, Oct. 16, IRCC held a French-language proficiency round (No. 450) and issued 5,000 invitations at a cut-off of 435. The category-based draw is open to candidates with strong French skills who meet IRCC’s eligibility rules, and it routinely sets a much lower score than general or Canadian Experience Class rounds.
Both draws followed a provincial nominee round on Oct. 13 that invited 752 candidates at a score of 772. A Trades Occupations round on Oct. 1 invited 3,500 candidates at 476.
Anyone who received an invitation has 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence, and the deadline on the invitation itself applies. Candidates who were not invited stay in the pool, which held 229,456 profiles as of Oct. 12, and can keep their profiles current. IRCC does not announce the size, type or timing of future rounds in advance.
Profiles are also affected by an upcoming change to how job offers are scored. Candidates should review their profiles before Nov. 3. The federal government’s wider immigration plans remain in debate, with the Conservatives pressing for deeper cuts to the levels plan.
Round-by-round results are on IRCC’s Express Entry rounds of invitations page. Canada News Media does not provide legal or immigration advice. Questions about a specific application should go to IRCC or a licensed immigration consultant or lawyer.
