The City of Regina is selling Healthy Halloween passes until Oct. 31, offering free recreation admission as an alternative to candy for trick-or-treaters, the city said.
Packs of 10 passes cost $7 for children aged two to 12 and $10 for youth aged 13 to 18. The passes are on sale at the Fieldhouse, Lawson Aquatic Centre, North West Leisure Centre and Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre while supplies last.
Each pass covers free admission to activities at city recreation facilities, including leisure swimming and drop-in basketball, badminton or tennis.
On Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, city staff will hand out free passes to trick-or-treaters while supplies last. The giveaway runs at the Fieldhouse, Lawson Aquatic Centre, North West Leisure Centre, Sandra Schmirler Leisure Centre, Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre and Mitakuyé Owâs’ā Centre. Passes will also be given out during the free public skate at the Murray Balfour Arena from 5:45 to 7:45 p.m.
“Healthy Halloween passes are a fun, cost-effective way to provide an alternative to sweet treats for children and youth on Halloween,” said Diana Burton, the city’s director of recreation and cultural services.
The city announced the passes Oct. 15. All public skates at city indoor rinks are also free this winter, with arenas open for public skating from October through March, the city said.
The sale comes as Regina wraps up other fall work. The city recently finished its 11th Avenue project on time and under budget and has more than $500,000 available for recycling and compost upgrades. For other Halloween planning, see our Prairie weekend guide.
