The City of Regina’s second annual Regina Housing Conference is sold out, with more than 230 people registered for Tuesday’s event at the Conexus Arts Centre, the city said Monday.
The conference brings housing industry participants, community members and government representatives together to hear about the city’s housing strategy and to network. Sessions cover financing, sustainability and innovative development, the city said in a news release.
“As Regina continues to grow, so does the need for diverse housing options that meet people where they are in life,” Mayor Chad Bachynski said in the release.
Keynote speakers are Barry Chalifoux, director of community development, and Rebecca Âcikahtê, director of business development for Cowessess First Nation. They will speak on building communities and creating opportunities beyond housing.
“We’re proud to put on this conference for a second year,” said Bill Neher, the city’s manager of housing. He said the forum helps professionals from across the housing and development industry connect.
The event is paid for through the Housing Accelerator Fund, the federal program meant to speed up housing construction in Canadian cities. Calgary also kept its share of the fund after repealing blanket rezoning.
Elsewhere on the Prairies, a developer has proposed 500 modular homes atop a Prince Albert mall.
