The City of Charlottetown will hold a single in-person session on Wednesday, Nov. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. for residents to weigh in on its 2027-2031 strategic plan and its 2027-28 municipal budget.
The session takes place at the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre, Rotary Auditorium, 97 Queen St., the city said in a news release Nov. 5. Residents can move through information displays at their own pace, speak with city staff and leave feedback on both topics.
Last year’s pre-budget process was larger. In an Oct. 7, 2025 release, the city announced four evening town halls between Oct. 20 and Oct. 30 at community centres in different parts of the city, plus an online survey that stayed open until Nov. 4 and written submissions at City Hall. This year’s release mentions the Nov. 18 session and directs residents to project pages on charlottetownhall.ca, but does not list town halls or a survey deadline in the notice.
The city is writing its next strategic plan to follow the 2022-2026 plan, A Community for Everyone. When council approved the 2026-27 budget on March 31, the city said more than 90 per cent of that plan’s actions were complete or on track to be finished by the end of 2026.
That budget held the property tax rate unchanged. It set total city and utility operating spending at $118.3 million and the combined capital budget for the city and the Water and Sewer Utility at $97.3 million, including $32.8 million in partner funding. The city said the capital plan included more than $25 million for street rehabilitation and infrastructure upgrades and $6 million for the first phase of a new fire station.
The consultation comes days after voters chose a new mayor. Our report on the Nov. 2 election result has the details, and our voting guide covers how the ballot worked. The city’s recent public works notices are also covered in our reports on the new electric vehicle charger at Victoria Park and the reopening of the Kensington Road and Exhibition Drive intersection.
Further information on each initiative is on the City of Charlottetown’s 2027-2031 Strategic Plan and 2027-2028 Budget project pages.
