Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Halifax Metro and western Halifax County, with 50 to 80 millimetres of rain expected before Sunday morning.
The warning, issued early Saturday, says the rain will be heavy at times and could be higher in thundershowers. Rainfall rates of 10 to 20 mm an hour may occur over some locations, the weather office said.
“Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas,” the warning says. Environment Canada asked drivers to allow extra time for travel.
A separate rainfall warning is in place for eastern Halifax County, east of Porters Lake, where 50 to 80 mm is also forecast from Saturday afternoon until Sunday evening. The same range is forecast for Victoria County in Cape Breton. Rainfall warnings are issued when significant impacts are expected because of the amount of rain.
The rain is part of a slow-moving system that is also affecting New Brunswick. Environment Canada’s latest special weather statement for Moncton and southeast New Brunswick calls for 30 to 40 mm of rain from Saturday until Sunday, with higher amounts possible. We reported earlier on heavy rain in southern New Brunswick and on heavy rain in southwestern Nova Scotia. Our weekend outlook has the wider picture for Remembrance Day week.
Nova Scotians can report severe weather to [email protected] or on social media with #NSStorm. Current alerts are posted on the Environment Canada website.
