Ottawa pharmacies are sold out of face masks

Ottawa pharmacies say they have sold out of surgical masks as concerns about coronavirus have grown, especially among travellers.

Stores that sell painting supplies are also reporting that even painters’ masks are becoming scarce.

Ryan Jarratt, pharmacist and owner of Respect Rx in Bells Corners, said he ran out of face masks on Friday evening. Most of the people buying them were travellers.

“Everything just disappeared on Thursday and Friday,” said Jarratt, who usually orders a supply of face masks for customers who request them during flu season.

“I think people just wanted to take precautions for travel.”

He has tried to reorder, but one warehouse said the product wouldn’t be available until Feb. 17. Another company would take his order, but had no date for availability.

“I’m usually able to get them within a week or a couple of days,” said Jarratt, who noted that the cost of face masks being sold on Amazon have climbed over the weekend.

According to the U.S. National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the N95 respirator is the most common of the seven types of particulate filtering face-piece respirators. These filter at least 95 per cent of airborne particles, but are not resistant to oil.

As of Monday morning Flu Armour, a U.S-based supplier of influenza-response equipment, had eight different types of face masks and four different kinds of N95 respirators in stock, but warned that “due to the coronavirus outbreak and high demand, product availability is limited. Please allow 24 to 48 hours for shipping.”

Meanwhile, stores that sell painting supplies have also noticed an increase in demand for N95 masks.

Preston Hardware owner Johnny Giannetti said he still had some painters’ masks and had reordered, but it is hard to get inventory. “I have some coming, but they’re not sure how much they can allocate to me.”

At Hampton Paints, Mike Fenton said painters’ masks are typically used to prevent the inhalation of dust particles.

“I had a bunch over the weekend. And now I’m sold out of them.”

On its website, Flu Armour said not all N95 masks are equal and its N95 respirators for medical use have passed stringent fluid resistance testing. “This is widely considered critical since airborne viruses transfer as fluid droplets.”

However, according to Ottawa Public Health, surgical masks are not recommended for protection for people who are not ill outside of healthcare settings, such as the general public.

“In healthcare settings, personal protective equipment, which may include face masks, are used because of the close contact with those who are ill. The type of personal protective equipment used depends on the situation.”

In the case of N95 respirators, proper fit-testing and training is required. “There are risks of using personal protective equipment without proper training,” said a spokeswoman for Ottawa Public Health in response to questions from this newspaper.

For those with symptoms such as coughing or sneezing, covering the face may reduce spread to others, said Ottawa Public Health.

“Surgical masks may have some benefit in reducing the spread of infection when worn during an illness, especially when seeking healthcare, such as waiting rooms at doctors’ offices. However, we do not specifically recommend that members of the public purchase masks.”

Ottawa Public Health recommends that people wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitizer; cover their coughs and sneezes with a tissue or an arm, not a hand, and stay home if sick. Those who are ill with a respiratory illness and must visit a healthcare provider should call ahead or tell the provider upon arrival and wear a mask while waiting to be seen.

Currently, only those who become ill within 14 days of having visited Wuhan, China, or have been in close contact with someone who has a respiratory illness who has been to Wuhan (within 14 days prior to their illness onset) are considered at risk for coronavirus infection, according to Ottawa Public Health.

What Does It Mean for a Slot Machine to Be Honest?

Are Slot Machines Honest?

The gambling industry is plagued by myths and misconceptions. One of the most persistent myths is that online slots are not honest. This myth is perpetuated by players who have had bad experiences and those who do not understand how online slots in Canada for real money work. The fact is that all games are based on chance. This means there is no guarantee that you will win every time you play. In this article, we will explore what RTP is, fair online casino slots, and how to choose an honest casino.

What Is RTP?

RTP is a theoretical percentage that indicates how much of your money you can expect to win back over time. For example, if a slot has an RTP of 96%, this means that for every $100 you bet, you will get back $96 on average in the long run. Online slots for real money with high RTPs are more generous than those with low RTPs. You need to remember that RTP is only theoretical and does not guarantee any particular outcome.

The RTP is determined by the game’s developer. It is set before the game is released and cannot be changed by the casino. You can usually find the RTP of a game in the game’s rules or help section.

Fair Games: an Honest Way to Play Slots Online for Real Money

As we mentioned, all gambling games are based on chance. This means that the house always has an edge and will win in the long run. But some players believe that casinos use rigged algorithms to cheat players out of their money.

This is where fair games come in. Their outcomes can be verified by a player using a simple algorithm. This means that the game cannot be rigged by the casino because the player can check whether they were cheated after each round.

Thanks to the nature of these games, they have become very popular with players looking for an honest game. So, if you are looking for honest Canadian online slots, we recommend choosing a fair game.

How to Choose a Trustworthy Casino

If you are looking for an honest casino, there are a few things you should look for. Below is a list of things to look for in a trustworthy casino:

  • A license from a reputable regulator. Casinos licensed by respected gambling authorities such as the UKGC, the MGA, and Curacao eGaming are usually honest. This is because these licenses come with strict requirements that casinos must meet to keep their license.
  • Good reviews from other players. You can learn much about a casino by reading what other players say. If you see many positive reviews, this is usually a good sign. Staying away from that casino is best if you see mostly negative reviews.
  • The best online slots for real money in Canada. Casinos that offer games from multiple providers are usually more trustworthy than those that only offer games from one provider. This is because they need to maintain relationships with multiple game providers, which gives them the incentive to be honest and treat their players well.
  • A considerable range of banking options. A good casino should offer numerous banking options for players to choose from. This shows that the casino is trying to accommodate as many players as possible and is not restricting its services to a specific group of players.

With these tips in mind, you should be able to find a trustworthy gambling website that offers honest Canadian slots online. This way, you can play with peace of mind knowing that you have a fair chance of winning.

Which Canadian Casino Provides the Best Slots?

While hundreds of casinos provide online slots to play for real money, not all of them are worth your attention. This is because some of these casinos are not honest and use rigged algorithms.

One gambling website you should pay attention to is King Billy. It provides a lot of online slots to win real money and has good reviews from other players. Plus, it offers a massive range of banking options and is licensed by MGA. Some other benefits of King Billy include the following:

  • Honest games. All the games on the website use RNG algorithms so that you can verify that you are not being cheated.
  • Over 2000 games from multiple providers. The website offers a huge selection of the best online slots from providers such as Endorphina, BGaming, Booming, and others.
  • Fast payouts. You can withdraw your winnings within 24 hours using e-wallets or cryptocurrencies. Other methods, such as bank transfers, may take a few days.
  • Generous bonuses. New players can get up to $2500 in welcome bonuses plus 250 free spins. There are also many other reload and cashback bonuses available.
  • Mobile-friendly website. The website can be accessed on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.

Thanks to these features, King Billy is a great platform to play the best online slots in Canada. It is safe, trustworthy, and offers a wide range of games to choose from.

With so many casinos, it can be hard to know which ones are honest. But if you keep the tips in this article in mind, you should be able to find a trustworthy casino that offers fair casino slots online. You can be sure of an honest game if the casino is licensed by a reputable regulator and has good reviews from other players.

Parlee Sky Ridge Carbon Gravel Wheelset review

Parlee is an American bike manufacturer known for high-end custom carbon frames, supplying a full range of road, triathlon/TT and gravel framesets. The company has just released the Sky Ridge Carbon gravel wheelset, with some bold claims. But can the performance justify the high price tag, especially considering some of the cheaper options in the best gravel wheelsets space?

Parlee might be a new brand to some, having specialised in creating custom carbon fibre bikes, and often pushing boundaries such as creating some of the lightest road bike frames available. The Sky Ridge wheelset is the first wheelset the brand has created to date, and just like some of their custom-painted frames, the wheelset stands out.

Parlee Sky Ridge Carbon Gravel Wheelset – Technical details

The hookless, tubeless compatible carbon rims are a collaboration with a US composite company, and they have several features that set them apart from other options in the segment. The construction, called FusionFiber, is said to improve damping while maintaining strength and the ability to make them lighter, a combination that differs from the more typical – stronger, lighter, stiffer trope. The recent Zipp 101 XPLR wheelset claims improved comfort, but they are heavier than the average wheelset. One element that makes the Parlee wheelset stand out against others is the fact they are recyclable. This is possible as the wheelset does not use any resins or epoxies.

The ‘built in the US’ tag continues to the hubs, built with Industry Nine Torch Classic hubs and finished with Sapim D-Light double-butted spokes. Claimed weight for the wheelset is 1,490g, and the measured weight, including valves and rim tape, was 1,520g (690g front, 820g rear). While this is quite light, it isn’t groundbreaking. They are lighter than other high-end wheels including FFWD Drift gravel wheels at 1,580g, and a big chunk lighter than the Zipp 101 XPLR we tested recently that weighed 1,710g. Parlee has said the rim alone is 400g, which is 70g more than the WTB CZR or ENVE G23 rims.

There are some nice touches, including the Parlee logos, which are reflective, and the finish of the rim looks brilliant, with a unidirectional weave visible – although it is quite tough to show in a photo.

Parlee Sky Ridge Carbon Gravel Wheelset – Performance

I have used the wheels on a wide variety of terrain, including some tracks with rougher and more technical gravel descents and several big all-day loops. The wheels feel stiff, and precise with little sideways flex when either climbing or pushing hard through the corners. Compared to the very lightweight e*thirteen XCX Race Gravel wheels (1,280g) they replaced there is a considerable improvement.

The Sky Ridge rims have a 23mm internal diameter, which is a common size, but the trend is starting to see even wider rims. Parlee suggests they will suit tyre sizes 32mm to 47mm, and through testing, I used a pair of WTB Vulpine 700x36c tyres, and they measured up at their expected width. They were also really easy to install and inflate using a standard track pump.

Parlee states the Sky Ridge wheelset has a carbon structure that improves comfort but this is something that would be incredibly difficult to accurately test for a gravel wheelset. They certainly don’t feel rough, and there are no vibrations coming through, but you’ll likely make a bigger difference to comfort by dropping the tyres by a few psi or choosing to run something wider.

Parlee_Sky_Ridge_Carbon_Wheelset_I9.JPG, by Matt Page

The Industry Nine Torch hubs are a real highlight, with instant pickup from the six-pawl design, which gives 120 points of engagement. Freehub noise can be personal, but I think they are simply the best I have ever heard. The sound is a buzz, or you could even describe it as a purr and in terms of volume, you can hear them but it’s not overpowering as some hubs can be.

Parlee Sky Ridge Carbon Gravel Wheelset – Verdict

The wheelset is priced at £2,500, which is beyond most budgets and more than almost all other carbon gravel wheelsets. Beyond the ENVE G23, a wheelset with a very similar specification you move into truly exotic wheels such as the Lightweight Pfadfinder Evo, an eye-watering £42,00, with only 40mm max tyre width! For many components and certainly for wheels, there is a case of diminishing returns and the performance of the Sky Ridge wheelset may only be small over wheelsets such as the sub £1,000 VEL 30 or Scribe Carbon Wide++.

For riders who may have the budget for a top-end wheelset, the Parlee Sky Ridge won’t disappoint with incredible precision, great looks and a recyclable element that may swing things for some.
