Two more intersections on 25th Street in downtown Saskatoon reopen to traffic on Saturday, Oct. 24, as the City of Saskatoon’s water main project moves toward its final stage.
The city said 3rd Avenue and 25th Street and 4th Avenue and 25th Street will fully reopen, restoring more access through the area. The intersections at 1st Avenue and 2nd Avenue were already open.
The intersection at 5th Avenue and 25th Street remains fully closed. The city said it expects to reopen on Oct. 30.
At 6th Avenue and 25th Street, traffic can get through, but with restrictions. One westbound lane is operating for drivers travelling from Spadina Crescent toward 6th Avenue. The eastbound lane from 6th Avenue toward Spadina Crescent stays closed, and the city expects it to reopen on Oct. 30.
The city said access to businesses, residences and properties is being maintained wherever possible. Some lane restrictions may remain at reopened intersections while crews finish restoration work, and final roadway resurfacing on 25th Street will follow once the remaining construction is done.
The last phase of the project is a water main replacement on 25th Street between 6th Avenue and Spadina Crescent. The city expects that work to be completed in 2027.
Saskatoon Transit service may be affected by the detours. Alerts and real-time bus information are available on third-party apps such as Transit and Google Maps. Drivers can find road restrictions in the city’s Daily Road Report at saskatoon.ca/construction.
Another Saskatoon closure starts Monday: Cumberland Avenue closes Oct. 26 for College Drive work. Drivers should also watch for wind warnings across southern Saskatchewan, which can affect road conditions.
