Drivers on Fanshawe Park Road in north London, Ont., face overnight detours this week as crews strip the top layer of asphalt between North Centre Road and Adelaide Street North, the City of London said.
The westbound lanes close from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and Wednesday, Nov. 4. Eastbound traffic was detoured on the nights of Sunday, Nov. 1, and Monday, Nov. 2. The city said an additional night may be needed to finish the work.
Only one direction is closed at a time. Traffic going the other way can continue through the area. During each closure, drivers in the affected direction are sent along Adelaide Street, Windermere Road or Sunningdale Road, and Richmond Street.
The milling is one of the last steps before new pavement goes down on the Fanshawe Park Road arterial rehabilitation project, which the city expects to finish before winter. Final paving will need further detours, and the city said it will share those dates once they are confirmed.
The city said milling can be noisy and asked nearby residents to keep windows closed overnight. Sidewalks on both sides of Fanshawe Park Road should mostly stay open, although some sections may close temporarily with signed detours. Local businesses remain open during regular hours, and some London Transit Commission routes are affected. The city said riders should check the commission’s website for schedules and detours.
Elsewhere in London this week, Richmond Street is closed from Nov. 3 to 5 for sewer work. Downtown, York Street has reopened to traffic.
