Troppy Foods Ltd. is recalling Plantropy brand Jack’d Up Bites Crispy Protein Bites in Jalapeno sold across Canada because the snack contains milk that is not declared on the label, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency said Oct. 23.
The recall is a Class 1 alert, the agency’s most serious category. It was triggered by CFIA test results, the notice said. No reactions linked to the product have been reported.
Two sizes are affected. The 40-gram bags carry UPC 6 28693 63539 4 and the 100-gram bags carry UPC 6 28693 63508 0. Both sizes were sold with one of two codes: TRCDJA25356 or TRUDJA25356 on the 40-gram bag, and TRCDJB25356 or TRUDJB25356 on the 100-gram bag. All have a best before date of Dec. 21, 2027, printed on the package as 2027 DE 21.
The notice lists the products as sold nationally and online. It does not name specific retailers or provinces.
People with a milk allergy or sensitivity should not eat the product, the CFIA said, because it may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction. The agency said anyone who has the snack should throw it out or return it to the store where it was bought, and should not serve, sell or distribute it.
Questions can be directed to the CFIA at 1-613-773-2342 or [email protected]. The full notice, including photos of the packaging and code locations, is posted on the Government of Canada recalls and safety alerts site.
Undeclared allergens have driven a run of recent food recalls in Canada, including white lotus mooncakes recalled over undeclared peanut and a potato bourguignon meal recalled over pea protein. Parents shopping for Halloween can also read the Health Canada candy safety checklist.
